The Broken Destiny - By Carlyle Labuschagne

Prologue
All my life, I had searched for something, something I thought I ought to be. I felt like I was living someone else’s life, waiting for the awakening of my own. I felt like an empty shell burning for life. That was, until the day I lay dying in the prince’s chambers. I could no longer feel the pain from the tear in my gut. The only sensation left was a hollowed-out feeling that I had made a huge mistake in assuming that taking my own life, would have stopped the ancestors’ spirit from raging out. I had given up. I didn’t want to see myself killing the ones I loved. I was the Chosen one, but I threw it all away for what I thought would save a life. Could you end a life to save a life? I did, and I have regretted it ever since. I realized then that things like me are not meant to exist. What had been missing my whole life? It was I. To find myself, I had to lose myself in the worst possible way. The consequences of my actions became the legend of The Broken.

Book Description

An amazing new sci-fi series begins with The Broken Destiny: Book One of The Broken Series. Ava is the great granddaughter of the founder of their kind: The Broken were genetically enhanced to survive evolution during the last years on earth, after which their experiments were abandoned and they moved to another planet, named Poseidon. Ava carries a secret journal of her mother's, which leads her to believe that her people are not what they seem. Ava has to decipher her mother's rantings in the journal, differentiating truth from madness to determine The Broken's true identities and origins. A few of The Broken will soon experience a "change," and each generation's change differs from the previous. (Ava's generation has been labeled the make it or break it generation.) Weeks before Ava's seventeenth birthday, an attempted kidnapping by Zulu warriors changes her destiny forever. Saved by a Minoan boy, she is taken back to his village where all the lies about her kind's existence (and how they came to be exiled to planet Poseidon) are brought to light. The Minoans are an ancient race that carries a secret tying in with Ava's prophesied destiny. Her destiny is to rise above the fall, to become what she hates to save them all. The story continues in the next book Evanescent. About the Author: Carlyle Labuschagne is a marketing and PR consultant in Johannesburg, South Africa. "I have always wanted to be a storyteller, to deliver a message, to help people believe in themselves and see the beauty in life."

Up close & Personal With M. Edward McNally, Author of The Sable City

Hello, I am M. Edward McNally, author of The Sable City, and thanks very much to Patti for the opportunity to answer some questions about me and my work. And of course, thanks always for supporting Indie writers.

Where do you call home?
The northern outskirts of Phoenix, Arizona, where the scorpions and the javelinas play...

What is your book about?
"The Sable City" is the first volume of an Epic, Musket & Magic Fantasy series. The shortest possible synopsis reads: Girl Seeks Boy. She is a newly-trained Guilder of an Island Trade House, and he is the exiled heir who may be able to save the House from economic dismemberment by its rivals.

If you gave some of your characters an opportunity to speak for themselves, what would they say?
As a representative of a Trade House, Tilda Lanai would say check out the free sample of the book, and see if meeting her doesn't make you want to plunk down a couple dollars (US) for the rest. (The Islanders are big on sales, it is what had gotten them to where they are today)

Do you have plans for a new book?
The second volume, "Death of a Kingdom," will be released in June.

What inspired you to write your book?
To try and make a long story as short as possible, I will just say that I "built" a Fantasy World while I was in grad school for history, almost as something of an exercise that allowed me to play around with the idea of how magic might have shaped historical, cultural, and political development. Then the people that lived in the world in my head started demanding that I write their stories down.

Would you like to be contacted by readers to do book reviews?
Sure. Feel free to drop a post on thesablecity facebook page anytime.

How did you come up with the title and cover design?
The Sable City is the location towards which the characters are drawn in the first book, though they all have different, and some competing, reasons for going there. The cover image came after I met a wonderful artist called "mimulux" on-line, as her work perfectly conveyed the menace of the ancient, mist-cloaked city of black basalt.

What books have most influenced your writing most and why?
My interest in the fantasy genre came out of reading Tokien, Eddings, Leiber, and many others as a kid. I got away from them for a while as I read a great deal of history while in school, but they never left my heart.

Do you prefer ebooks, paperbacks or hardcovers?
I had absolutely no interest in e-reading devices or books, right up until getting a Kindle last Christmas. Now I'm here, digitally publishing, and come to think of it I don't think I have bought a print book since, though I have been reading more than ever. Nothing compares with a library in your pocket.

Patti: Oh I know what you mean, I LOVE my Kindle! So same...

What book are you currently reading?
Since meeting so many fellow Indie authors in the on-line community, I've found so many with books that I wanted to read that I have had to swear-off any "Trade" books for the time being. I have a number of Indie books going at any given time, and am enjoying it greatly.

Do you have any advice for other writers?
Get out there in the digital world, meet each other, help each other out. And Put In The Work. I feel like we are a community, and the serious among us can be our best strength and support. But digital publishing is still the Wild West, and anybody can sell anything they just cobbled together that morning. Sloppy, lousy, casual garbage just hurts the whole "Indie" brand, and that bothers me more than anything the big publishers do.

Don't Tell Your Cousin [Kindle Edition] Veronica E. Kelly

A tale of a twisted and steamy love triangle involving two cousins and a married man, a grisly love affair full of deceit, mayhem, and shameful women.

As the mountain of lies come tumbling down and the drama unfolds, Amanda is forced to hold a mirror to herself and come to terms with a reflection she struggles to accept.

Readers comments:

Awesome -- Can't wait to read next book.

From the very beginning it is action filled that I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. By far, this is definitely at the top of my list for one of the most vivid and intense books that I've ever read. This new writer has truly captured the audience in this captivating book about family. She is one person who I can't wait to read the next novel and hope she captures the same passion.

About the Author

Veronica E. Kell y attended Columbia College Chicago and received a degree in Fiction Writing.

She
currently resides in Chicago, Illinois, and enjoys writing, a craft she describes as "granting her permission to let her imagination run wild.

A Good Attitude

Patti Roberts

A new friend recently said to me via Goodreads -

Message: Love your attitude!!! Nothing can faze you, I really love that. Can't wait for your next book in the series, Patti. It [Paradox - the Angels Are Here] was an awesome read. Wishing you a wonderful weekend, too. Jayde x

So that got me to thinking & writing this post......

At the beginning of each day, we have two choices.

And that is - to start the day with a good attitude or to start the day with a bad attitude?

When I was 25 years old I rolled a car. When I was laying in the hospital bed in traction they told me I would never walk again. They were right about that.

You have a lot of time to think when you are in a predicament like that I found.

I realised two very important things. You can never have enough good friends and the attitude you have towards life can make you or break you.

I suggest starting each day with a GREAT attitude - and then hope like Christ that the day ends the way it started!

Patti :)

I think that whatever predicament you find yourself in, it is always better to start with a good attitude. Don't you agree?

Rogue's Honor [Kindle Edition] By Aiden Sawyer

Rogue's Honor is an epic fantasy tale centered in a world populated by Men, Elves, Dwarves, Orcs... and the occasional Demon. It is a story rich with conflict, robust characters, mystery, and magic. In standard print form, it is roughly 460 pages in length.

Synopsis

Tellion Steele, a peasant Elf by birth, was typically naïve and optimistic in his formative years and, without regard to the disparity between their stations, surrendered his young heart impulsively and completely to Lynless Allystriel, the Elven princess of Celestar. Yet, Tellion was anything but a typical Elf. Even in his youth he had faced demons, and he held secrets. . . secrets that eventually landed him in trouble with the Elven aristocracy.

Banished from his homeland, the only honor Tellion Steele came to know was that of the sword and the shadows. Bereft of family and forsaken by Lynless, the outcast Elf learned to make his way in life as a thief and a mercenary. Now, the world is seized by the machinations of conspiracy and war, and the Elven princess is somehow caught up in the workings.

Against his better judgment, Tellion finds he must return to the land of his exile to protect the beautiful princess from the forces of evil that threaten her. But when a conflicted Lynless refuses his aid, Tellion is forced to play a dangerous game fraught with peril and intrigue as he walks the fine line between honor and treachery, deceiving both friend and foe alike to pull off the gambit of his life – to liberate the unwilling princess from the fortress of the Elf-king.

About The Author:

Aiden Sawyer currently lives in the Pacific Northwest with his wife and son where he works in marketing for the world's premier sports & fitness brand. He was born and raised in the high desert region of Southern California. After a brief stint in the Navy (where Rogue's Honor was born), he returned to Southern California to attend CSU San Bernardino until transfering to the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL where he was a dual major in Communications (Film Production) and English (Creative Writing). After college, Aiden followed work to coastal New England, where the lion's share of Rogue's Honor was written, before again following work to the Pacific NW where he met his soul-mate and promptly married her.

Aiden is currently working on Honor's Toll, his follow up to Rogue's Honor, and hopes to have the principle writing complete by the end of summer 2011.
