George A. Bernstein - A City On The Edge

A knife in her heart! Detective Al Warner views the gristly murder of a 40’s, attractive, black-haired woman, strangled after sex, and the blade plunged home postmortem. Is a new serial killer prowling the streets of Miami? But no more deaths occur, so the file goes cold—until the same M.O. happens again, 2 years later. Again, no similar deaths ensue, so it becomes another “cold case,” until a 3rd murder, after 2 more years.

Warner is sure he has another serial lunatic, the 7th in 8 years. He’s probably traveling on some type of schedule. The FBI is summoned, profiling the pyscho as someone trying to still an “evil” heart. A deep scrub of the South and Southeast finds a total of 18 previously unconnected murders over 10 years, scattered from Virginia to Florida. The knife-in-the-heart is a recent escalation.

Then, on Warner’s hunch, the FBI discovers a possible connection, but there are multiple potential suspects. Several are visiting Miami, but trickery abounds during the investigation, spawning false leads and surprising twists before a clever ploy by Warner brings everything to a stunning conclusion.

Act of Murder is the 8th Detective Al Warner novel. The first seven: Death’s Angel; Born to Die; The Prom Dress Killer; White Death; Sniper; Taken; Cold Vengeance, each have mostly 5-Stars. Reviewers liken Warner to Patterson’s Alex Cross, and Bernstein is hailed as a word smith who creates seldom anticipated endings. Most frequent comment: “I couldn’t put it down.”

About the author

George was born and raised in Chicago and its suburbs, living there until the age of 39. He is now a retired corporate President, life-long fishing enthusiast, and a dedicated author. As a new author, George worked hard to improve his writing craft, attending many Writers Conferences and Writing Seminars to learn what makes really GREAT writing. That effort has produced 3 award-winning novels, as finalist and/or winners of several large writing contests. His first novel, "Trapped," was a winner at small, Indie publisher, TAG Publisher's, "Next Great American Novel" contest, and they subsequently published the novel, becoming an Amazon Top 100 novel.

As research for his 2nd novel, "A 3rd Time to Die," George actually did hypnotic Past Life Regression with an associate of famed guru, Dr. Brian Weiss. George went into that adventure just to see the mechanics of how Regression worked, but after finding 9 "past lives," he came out a believer. Things he discovered about several of those existences are things that have had a pronounced impact on his current life.

George then began his Detective Al Warner novels, a character and plot driven series with Warner likened to Patterson's Alex Cross by many readers. He is frequently hailed as a wordsmith and creator of surprise endings.

George is also a world-class fly-fisherman, having held a dozen IGFA World Records. He's an expert at fly-fishing for pike & musky, and wrote the highly regarded book, "Toothy Critters Love Flies" on that sport, as well. Every year he hosts a "Fly-fishing for Pike" week at far-north Canadian lodges, where he teaches casting, techniques and fly-trying.

George now live in sunny Florida, and splits his time between writing, fishing & fine cabinet making (his 3-car garage is a "Cabinet Shop," and he's built 28 mahogany raised-panel and French doors, all the cabinets, and a fine cherry-wood entertainment center for his house). But George's greatest love right now is creating riveting fiction, all of which has mostly 5* & 4* reviews.
