Paul Eberz : CODA, the fourth book in the SMOKE series

CODA, the fourth book in the SMOKE series, delivers a masterclass in suspense, packed with twists, turns, and a spectacular final revelation in the tradition of Arthur Conan Doyle. At its center is a diabolical, sociopathic villain. Seeking to fulfill his own grand scheme, he exploits a contract murder issued by a greedy, elitist cabal who will stop at nothing to get what they want.

Standing against this madness is Henry “Smoke” Smokehouse. A truly selfless hero, Smoke ignores his own fragile health to protect friends and strangers alike. Backing him up is a colorful, diverse circle of lifelong friends who watch his back as he unravels a baffling mystery.

At its core, CODA is a gripping thriller anchored in unshakable values: friendship, family, loyalty, courage, and self-sacrifice.

At its core, CODA is a story deeply rooted in real-life situations even when they are affected by extraordinary challenges. The story reaffirms true life values; love, family, friendship, loyalty, and self-sacrifice.

George A. Bernstein - A City On The Edge

A knife in her heart! Detective Al Warner views the gristly murder of a 40’s, attractive, black-haired woman, strangled after sex, and the blade plunged home postmortem. Is a new serial killer prowling the streets of Miami? But no more deaths occur, so the file goes cold—until the same M.O. happens again, 2 years later. Again, no similar deaths ensue, so it becomes another “cold case,” until a 3rd murder, after 2 more years.

Warner is sure he has another serial lunatic, the 7th in 8 years. He’s probably traveling on some type of schedule. The FBI is summoned, profiling the pyscho as someone trying to still an “evil” heart. A deep scrub of the South and Southeast finds a total of 18 previously unconnected murders over 10 years, scattered from Virginia to Florida. The knife-in-the-heart is a recent escalation.

Then, on Warner’s hunch, the FBI discovers a possible connection, but there are multiple potential suspects. Several are visiting Miami, but trickery abounds during the investigation, spawning false leads and surprising twists before a clever ploy by Warner brings everything to a stunning conclusion.

Act of Murder is the 8th Detective Al Warner novel. The first seven: Death’s Angel; Born to Die; The Prom Dress Killer; White Death; Sniper; Taken; & Cold Vengeance, each have mostly 5-Stars. Reviewers liken Warner to Patterson’s Alex Cross, and Bernstein is hailed as a word smith who creates seldom anticipated endings. Most frequent comment: “I couldn’t put it down.”

Biography

I have had three careers before turning to writing. I taught Mathematics in high school and community college, worked as a geophysicist in a major oil company exploring for oil and gas and worked as a counselor/psychotherapist with adults, groups, families, couples and teens. I have a BS in geology, an MCS in mathematics and an MA in Psychology. I taught Algebra II to William Faulkner's granddaughter.

My past writing experiences were writing plays for the neighborhood kid to put on when I was around 12-14 years old, writing technical reports as a geophysicist, writing research papers while working on my masters in psychology, and writing letters to judges, with recommendations, while counseling juvenile justice adolescents.

Besides writing mysteries, I like to read (anything I can get my hands on), paint landscapes in oil and in enamel on glass. I enjoy swimming and walking on the beach.

You can tell a lot about my psyche by reading my self-help book entitled THE ANSWERS ARE WITHIN. I have had many struggles in life and I like to incorporate my experiences into my writing.

A fantasy I have is to wear a Versache evening gown and dance the tango with Al Pacino.

I am a night person and can't stand morning people who wake me up early. I like relating to one or two people rather than being in a crowd. Most of my friends are for life.
