The Broken Destiny - By Carlyle Labuschagne

Prologue
All my life, I had searched for something, something I thought I ought to be. I felt like I was living someone else’s life, waiting for the awakening of my own. I felt like an empty shell burning for life. That was, until the day I lay dying in the prince’s chambers. I could no longer feel the pain from the tear in my gut. The only sensation left was a hollowed-out feeling that I had made a huge mistake in assuming that taking my own life, would have stopped the ancestors’ spirit from raging out. I had given up. I didn’t want to see myself killing the ones I loved. I was the Chosen one, but I threw it all away for what I thought would save a life. Could you end a life to save a life? I did, and I have regretted it ever since. I realized then that things like me are not meant to exist. What had been missing my whole life? It was I. To find myself, I had to lose myself in the worst possible way. The consequences of my actions became the legend of The Broken.

Book Description

An amazing new sci-fi series begins with The Broken Destiny: Book One of The Broken Series. Ava is the great granddaughter of the founder of their kind: The Broken were genetically enhanced to survive evolution during the last years on earth, after which their experiments were abandoned and they moved to another planet, named Poseidon. Ava carries a secret journal of her mother's, which leads her to believe that her people are not what they seem. Ava has to decipher her mother's rantings in the journal, differentiating truth from madness to determine The Broken's true identities and origins. A few of The Broken will soon experience a "change," and each generation's change differs from the previous. (Ava's generation has been labeled the make it or break it generation.) Weeks before Ava's seventeenth birthday, an attempted kidnapping by Zulu warriors changes her destiny forever. Saved by a Minoan boy, she is taken back to his village where all the lies about her kind's existence (and how they came to be exiled to planet Poseidon) are brought to light. The Minoans are an ancient race that carries a secret tying in with Ava's prophesied destiny. Her destiny is to rise above the fall, to become what she hates to save them all. The story continues in the next book Evanescent. About the Author: Carlyle Labuschagne is a marketing and PR consultant in Johannesburg, South Africa. "I have always wanted to be a storyteller, to deliver a message, to help people believe in themselves and see the beauty in life."

Roses At Dusk - A psychological thriller with a supernatural twist By M. W. Russell

What do you do when the one you trust can no longer be trusted? Where do you turn when the one you gave your heart to, your body, your blood, the murky depths of your soul, defies mortality's rules? What do you do...YOU RUN!

Hannah Malcolm has been through more in her short lifetime than any young woman should have to bear. So after the well publicised death of her family, Hannah decides to leave the bustling streets of Chicago and seek refuge, in the sleepy seaside town of Bar Harbor, in Maine. A new job, new friends and a quaint cottage on the cliff overlooking the sparkling waters of Frenchman Bay give her just the opportunity she needs.

But complications have always been a speciality of Hannah's and Bar Harbor is to be no exception. The town is reeling after an unexplained murder and several random assaults, which have small degrees of separation from her. One disaster after the next begin to swirl at Hannah's feet and to add to her worries her new found man is starting to appear not quite as he seems.

Bone chilling and a lesson in trust Roses at Dusk is a psychological thriller with a paranormal twist that will have you questioning your judgement with everyone you meet.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Heart Pounding Original, September 6, 2012
This review is from: Roses At Dusk (The Demonic Series) (Kindle Edition)
I must take a moment to catch my breath. Ms. Russell definitely put a spin on evil with this one, and it's hard for me to believe this was her debut novel, although she is not new to writing. The way I hear it she has another novel about to break into the publishing world, with another two works in progress. Wow! Sounds like an author that could keep a reader satisfied to me. Anyway, I must move on and tell you a bit about why my heart is still in my throat and I may or may not be looking over my shoulder right now. And I will try my best not to spoil it for you.

Hannah Malcolm attempts to start her life anew in a slower-paced town. Bar Harbor isn't at all what she was used to in Chicago, but that was the point. She had to find a way to escape, and possibly forget, the horrible memories she had of the death of her family. With the case closed, and no answers found, staying would have only been the end of her sanity.

With a brand new job and a few friends made, Hannah agrees to be dragged against her will to a club with new friend and co-worker, Penny Pilkington. What she found there was Marcus, a guy that any girl in the club or town would have done just about anything just to get his attention. Hannah was shocked by the evident fact that Marcus didn't seem to notice anyone but her.

Marcus' interest seemed to grow even more through the weeks, and Hannah found that she was completely besotted with the devastatingly handsome rogue. Strange things began to happen, but ignoring them was a whole lot easier than facing them and ruining what seemed to be the perfect relationship.

A brutal murder and a serious accident that almost took the life of Penny, had her nerves on end. And she realized when the bruises lasted longer and Marcus' words sounded more possessive than loving, that she may not have been seeing the real Marcus at all. She also realized that the only way to get out of the relationship may cost her her life.

With the help of a friend, and some disturbing discoveries about Marcus' secret life and her own past, she takes the chance and runs.

I can't tell you anymore, because it would spoil it. I highly recommend this book to anyone who craves a little danger in their life. Roses at Dusk will have you dreading the setting sun. It receives 5 stars from me.

Biography

Maree Ward-Russell is a writer, a Registered Nurse and Mother to five teenagers. She has been writing Short stories and Novels since she was a teen herself. Born in New Plymouth in 1965 she attended Spotswood College and later graduated fromTaranaki Polytechnic as a Registered General, Obstetric and Psychiatric Nurse in 1985.

After travelling for some years she has since settled with her family in Auckland. More recently she has completed an Advanced Diploma in Novel writing with the New Zealand Business Institute - receiving a Merit Endorsement.

The first of her work available is the Castle Trilogy...

THE TRANSIENT, THE SOUL KEEPER and THE DARKEST ANGEL. Dripping with atmosphere, adventure and epic romance, THE TRANSIENT is the first in this series. It is a tale of centuries old mysteries, ethical dilemmas and heart breaking decisions that Melodie Gibson and her friends must face when she and her father move to Heartworth Castle in upstate New York.

ROSES AT DUSK is also completed. A psychological thriller with a supernatural twist, this novel has risen from the ashes of THE CASTLE series and involves one of its more evil protagonists. Marcus, a demonic angel sets about establishing himself amongst mortals with devastating consequences for one young accountant - Hannah Malcolm. The target audience maybe slightly more adult but the tale just as enthralling.

Incomplete, but steadily growing is a novel that will capture the hearts of younger teens. Think C.S. Lewis, think Paolini and Tolkien and you have The DRAGONS OF THE YEW MAZE. A delightful story of two cousins who find themselves in another world fighting for the survival of a race of elfish people and their dragon protectors. This story, with battles and excitement will particularly entice young teens with a need for adventure.

Dr. Gideon Box, world-famous surgeon, is extremely good at his job. He’s never lost a patient…but he has issues. He’s antisocial. Doesn’t mix well with others. Breaks into people’s homes and assumes their identities.

Occasionally kills other doctor’s patients. He’s had bad luck with women his entire life. Big surprise, right? His psychiatrist tells him to join a dating service. Tells him to seek women from small towns.

Says they’ll possess basic core values, be less shallow and self-centered than the hookers and strippers he’s been dating. She tells him to take a week off and visit these women. Tells him to be positive, keep an open mind.

So Dr. Box joins a dating website, spends two weeks narrowing down the candidates, and eventually settles on three small-town Kentucky women who seem to possess the qualities his psychiatrist recommended, as well as the one quality Dr. Box seeks: excessive horniness. He sets out to meet these women, starting with Faith Hemphill, who lives in Ralston, Kentucky. He flies to Nashville, rents a car, gets within two hours of Ralston…and meets a hot young waitress named Trudy Lake. Then all hell breaks loose.

REVIEW:

5.0 out of 5 stars What a ride with Dr. Box!
This review is from: BOX (Kindle Edition)
I have read every book written by John Locke and he is just an amazing author all the way around. This book was so hysterical and the trouble this Dr Box gets into is just unbelievable. In my opinion, to enjoy the total richness of the authors writing you will just want to read everything he has written. Bad Doctor Bad Doctor precedes this book so if you haven't read that be sure to do it too. Then there is the whole Donovan Creed Series Lethal People (A Donovan Creed Novel) . There is also a great Customer Discussion group "Have you discovered John Locke" where you can meet other fans of John Locke. So do yourself a favor. Read all his books and join us in the Customer Discussion group for more fun. You will be glad you did! And happy reading!
