City of Bones - The Mortal Instruments, what did you think?

Have you read the books, seen the movie? What did you think - was it as good as you expected it to be?

Katrina Whittaker Yes - the actors were great- the special affects - length a bonus - things were changed but very close to the books. Humour - a little romance - lots of action ... 4.99 stars

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder—much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing—not even a smear of blood—to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know...

Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare’s ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

A new collection of Short Stories by David Bishop - Top 100 Amazon mystery writer.

Love & Other Four-Letter Words: a Maybe Murder

A Collection of 7 Short Stories

Love & Other Four-letter Words: a Maybe murder is a fun and fascinating story that will leave you wondering just who killed who, or if the death was an accident—or then again, a perfect murder dressed up to appear as an accident. It’s a fun story.

A Day in the Life of a Novelist is a look at the austere and lonely life of an author made colorful with a wee bit of hyperbole.

Randolph Allen Barrington III is the hypothetical jerk who lives next door and how a normal, well, somewhat normal, neighbor deals with Randolph Allen Barrington III. This is mostly a story of humor told on the periphery of a murder.

Macee’s Place is an unusual story in that it is one of a place as much as of a person. Macee is a modern woman, jazz lover and saxophonist, who owns and operates a local upscale tavern—a home away from home for its regulars. The same tavern as had been owned and operated by her mother and grandmother, as arranged by her grandmamma who married the building owner many years before in return for, shall we say, an unusual business arrangement.

Little Girl Lost is the story of a small girl, kidnapped but not held for ransom. She is not physically or sexually assaulted or abused, simply held against her will, alone, with a challenge put before her to survive.

The Bijou, The Movie House of Our Youth: A memory-evoking story about a troubled young lady who takes a drive into the neighborhood where she was raised, and ends up outside the movie house of her youth, now boarded up and in disrepair. She wanders inside, takes her favorite seat and experiences the recollections of days and events gone by. I crafted this one to allow the reader to recall their experiences in their own hometown movie house. All this is nicely tied together by the troubles this lady is experiencing in her own life and her own selection of men.

The Taking of #38: This is the story of a man who never believed that any woman could wrap him around her finger and walk him wherever she wanted him to go. Then he meets Mary and his life gets turned upside down.

I trust you will enjoy reading these stories as much as I enjoyed writing them for you. Please drop me an email after your read and share your thoughts. david@davidbishopbooks.com
So, you say, WHAT’S NEXT?

In early 2014 I will be releasing Matt Kile Mystery #4. The working title is "Find My Little Sister a Matt Kile Mystery". This Kile story will be different than the first three Matt Kile Mysteries in that it will take place in the late 1930s, set in greater Los Angeles, California.

Ah, you ask? But how will you Matt Kile back eighty years in time? All I can tell you is this is not a science fiction, fantasy, or paranormal story. I know. I know. I asked myself the same things until I figured out how to do it. I realize it’s cruel to say wait until early 2014, but please do. It is an interesting historical novel chock full of the crime of that era, romance, and the inner working of Los Angeles, a city known as Sin City before Las Vegas got the title.

Beyond that Kile story, I have plans for another Maddie Richards Mystery, and a fifth Matt Kile Mystery. I continue to look for an excellent story to again feature Linda Darby, from my novel, The Woman. I’m working on some rough ideas for I know you all want to read more of Linda, so do I.

The Cobra and Scarab: A Novel of Ancient Egypt, By Glenn Starkey.

"Hidden for centuries by the shifting sands of the desert, scrolls are unearthed by an archeologist who believes his dream of discovering riches has finally come true. But his hopes of returning to England in glory are shattered when a Bedouin reveals that the ancient text does not hold monetary value, but instead shares the unknown truths of the beautiful Egyptian queen Hatshepsut, the treacheries of nobility, and the two men destined from birth to clash with her.

The ambitious Hatshepsut is willing to become Pharaoh at any cost, even when the price must be paid with her body and with murder. Tetimas, rightful heir to the throne, is forced from childhood to watch his kingship stolen from him by Hatshepsut and her sadistic lover, Ashwan. Yet, despite his fears, Tetimas’s fate and Egypt’s power are destined to become one. Haunted by tragedy, Sakkara seeks solace in war, but is willing to risk everything to save his half-brother, the true king.

In this gripping, classic historical tale, the hatred between two strong-willed leaders is about to boil to the surface. As a nation waits for the victor in a momentous struggle for the throne, a hidden history is at last revealed."

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical
By M Medler - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition

I have a confession to make. I have put off writing this review for what feels like eternity, and I still don't think I'm ready. You see, my problem is that I don't trust myself to do these books justice.

When you find an author with a style so perfect, so entrancing, that you know full well you'd read their shopping list if that's what they decided to publish, what could you say to make a difference? I'm supposed to be good with words, but they fail me now. So I guess I'll just have to stick to being as objective and clinical as I can. Here's what I thought of the first two books in the Witchwood Estate series.

First impression: I would read this series 'till the world came to an end. I secretly hope Patti Roberts never ever stops writing. Her imagination is unequalled.

Voice: smooth storytelling, trance-inducing, the kind that seeps into your brain and surreptitiously replaces reality with a fantastic life you couldn't help but want to be a part of.

Plot: Oh, how many possibilities! From a simple intro and clear focus, the action picks up and threads of intrigue, mystery and hidden threats begin to weave into the main fabric. As more characters are introduced, their purpose and intent are implied, understood, twisted and finally revealed to be something no one could have foreseen. There are enough twists in there for at least another ten books! And I want to read them all.

Characters: perfectly formed, from the smallest secondary role to the protagonist. Alexandria is the kind of best friend all of us need. Andrew is so sweet, and his character has so much yet-untapped potential. Then, there is black magic, and shape-shifters, and ghosts.

Descriptions: original and just right for forming the right picture. I felt as if I knew my way around, right there, in the story.

Extras: Flick through the pages, and you'll find spells Alexandria has inherited from her mother. There are illustrations accompanying the spells, with lists of ingredients, method, verses and chants to make the spells work. Patti Roberts' artistic abilities are well-known, but still, this is a very inspired little detail that adds depth and value to the story.

Emotion: The author's ability to share a character's emotion is incredible. Living as an outcast, or at least someone different, comes across very well at the beginning of this series, and is presented with a kindness not many people are capable of. My eyes teared up because I could imagine or identify with many of the sentiments the characters were dealing with, even in this limited portion of the story.

The overall effect is of being at one with the book. Flawless in every way, the writing is exceptional. I fell head-first into the magic and I can't wait to see where the story is heading next. A beautiful, modern tale about a witch and what it takes to make your own way in life. This is a six-star book, at the very least.

5.0 out of 5 stars SPELLBINDING!!!!

I have received this book as a gift, from the author Patti Roberts. In exchange for my honest review of her book.
I read this book a couple of weeks ago and have been trying to think how to give the book and Patti justice.
You see, the book is truly a work of genius!!!
The main character is a young girl by the name of Alexandria, by she goes by Alex. And after many years of being of being away from her home ; she is finally going home. She is going to claim her birth right. Witchwood Estate. a long her journey other she meets a young man by the name of Andrew(who is a ghost).
Now the estate has always belonged to her and is the home of all her family 's spirits.
The plot is pure captivating and imitative!!! The way that the author works the magic spells into the story is so awesome. The scenes and the characters come alive right before your eyes.

This book is totally Genius!!! And it is a MUST read for ya and even adults. I give this book a total of 20stars even though I can only put 5 stars . Patti Roberts you are awesome and Genius and your imagination is truly amazing.
