About The Author

Edee grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and now resides in South Florida with her husband.  She once studied Hypnosis, became certified and practiced for only a short time. To better suit her clients, she wrote scripts for the hypnosis sessions. She found out that she enjoyed writing the scripts and decided to try her hand at novels. In addition to From This Moment, she has written two other novels, In Jack’s Place and Guardian Angel. Both can be purchased on Amazon. She has a love of poetry, and has written many. Two are included in this book. In addition to the poetry and novels, she has written two unpublished plays with hopes of presenting them some day.

Several years ago, Edee found two wonderful writers’ groups in Jupiter, Florida who nourished her love for writing and prompted her to publish and continue writing. She will be forever grateful to them. Currently she is writing her fourth novel which is a serial killer-syfy murder mystery. It is not her typical genre. Growing Up, Poetry -  When you're young the world seems new.  This book is a collection of poems that captures that Spirit of Youth.  It brings back the emotions that one can experience for all ages at the arrival of Spring or when school is out.  These are poems that everyone can enjoy for years to come.  For ages 2 - 7 years old, although adults like the book also. One can experience the joys of childhood with whimsical pictures & poems.  My book gives everyone a sense of peace and happiness.  It inspires children to care about saving the environment & savor the innocence of youth.  There are poems about a puppy, a kitten, stars, the seasons, & saving the environment, and many more.

What inspired you to start writing, and when? I started out with writing in Junior High School when my teacher had our class to create a poetry book listing some of our most favorite children's poems or other types of poetry and we had to include with this class project two poems that we had to make up ourselves. Later on, in 2009, is when I began writing my poems and my savings plan.  It was at this time that I decided to make them into a book.

What is your preferred genre?   Self-help books, children's books, and poetry.  A scary story in the works.

How many books have you written?  I have written 2 books and are not a part of a series.

Was there an Author that inspired your writing?

For my poetry, it was the Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes that I loved to read when I was little.

Do you prefer ebooks, paperbacks or hardcover?  I like the concept of e-books but I prefer paperbacks and hardcover books.

Where do you prefer to buy your books?    Pretty much, most bookstores.  I buy books from Amazon.com, Barnes&Noble, and the Half-Price Bookstores and others.

What books would you like to read again?

Green Eggs & Ham,  poetry books, romance novels, and different types of self-help books. Also, all Walt Disney books, Sesame Street, and The Muppets books.  Marvel superhero comics and The Archies.

Is there a particular movie that you preferred over the book version? Not sure?  I really enjoyed and liked the movie version of Bridge to Terabithia,  and The Never Ending Story.  Also, Jurrasic Park and movies about Stephen King's books.

I designed the covers of both of my books.

Do you find yourself intrigued by the cover of a book enough to buy it? 

Yes, definitely.  Especially, the romance novels.

Do you have any advice for other writers starting out?

Write from your heart, what you are passionate about.

Do you write under a pen name?   No.

Do you ever write in your PJ’s?  Yes,  sometimes.

What are your pet peeves?  My biggest pet peeves are the abuse of farm animals and littering, polluting the Earth.

No one,  not even animals deserve to be abused.  I pray for the abuse of animals to STOP.

You are trapped on a tropical island - who would you like to be stranded with?

Other than my best friend, David W,  I would not mind at all being stranded with Michael Praed.

Pick one - Wine, Chocolate or shoes?   Hands down, Chocolate.

Cats or dogs?  Both, I love animals.

Tell us about someone or something that just made your day -

My best friend, when he takes me out for dinner at a restaurant of my choice for my birthday. When Actor, Mr. Tom Atkins had them call me overhead at the Scarefest to come and p/u my camera as left it near his booth and the fact that he knew my name and put it in a safe place until I could go back to retrieve it.  He is an awesome Actor and very nice.

What is your favorite food and beverage? Favorite Food - Pasta, Salads, Pizza, potatoes, corn, Chilli, and Soft Tacos.

Favorite Beverage - Iced Tea, Pepsi, Coke Cola, Milk Egg Nog, Decaf coffee & Orange Juice.

How many hours per day do you try to devote to research and writing? In the beginning, I just wrote down my thoughts on paper as they came to me.  If I am writing

poetry, I would say about 1-2 hours per month, not too often.  My ideals with poetry come for me whenever I am walking in the parks.

What are 3 things you never leave home without (apart from keys, money, and phone)? My umbrella, flashlight, my favorite music CDs, and bags to carry things.  I love pretty bags.

Sleep in or get up early? I work nightshift, so I really don' t sleep in at night and I do not like to get up early, mostly because of the shift I work on.

Laptop or desktop for writing?  I write on paper but if I could choose, I'd prefer a Laptop.

Where and when do you prefer to do your writing?  I prefer to do my writing at night and when I go to the parks during daytime hours.

Your thoughts on receiving book reviews - the good and the bad -  Book reviews can be tricky sometimes but I tend to think that everyone has an opinion and when you are putting yourself out there you may get either good reviews or bad reviews. I always hope to receive good reviews.  Sometimes, I wonder if one gets a bad review is it because that person is jealous because they did not come up with the idea first or just being sarcastic.  You go into this realizing that maybe not everyone is going to like your work.  As an author, we all hope to receive good reviews for our books.

Do you have a bucket list?   Yes, I want to go camping, fly a helicopter, travel, and go see Jerusalem - where Jesus lived.  Also, take care of baby animals.

One of your favorite quotes –   One of my favorite quotes is from Star Wars where Yoda tells Luke SkyWalker - "Do or Do Not, There is No Try."

List 3 of your favorite movies? The Muppet Movie - rainbow connection. Superman. Bridge to Terabithia

What is a movie or TV show that you watched just recently and really enjoyed? There have been several such as Terror in The Woods, Riverdale, Supergirl, and I enjoyed the movie "Wonder Woman"

What inspired you to start writing, and when? When I was younger I never had the desire to write. In fact it was the last thing I wanted to do. But my mum used to tell me a lot of stories about how she grew up in the war. These stories were always happy memories of hers and often they were very funny tales of what my Grandma used to get up to. I thought that those stories needed to be written down. However, when I started to write another story came to me. Completely fiction but had hints of truth in it. And Dangerous Deeds was born, lol

What is your preferred genre? Romantic suspense with a lot of humour.

How many books have you written?  If more than one, are any a series…or trilogy? I’ve written 7 books. At present, I have two books in each series and one stand alone. But I’m working on adding books in each series J

Tell us a little about your book. Dangerous Deeds is a story of family, love and how, no matter what, we are all equal and should be treated that way

Do you have plans for a new book? Yes, I’m working on the next in the series at the moment

Is there an Author that you would really like to meet? Janet Evanovich and Sophie Kinsella. Can I have two? J

Was there an Author that inspired your writing? Yes, both of those that I’d like to meet!

Do you plot or write by the seat of your pants? I plot the story but fill it all in by the seat of my pants

Did you have an editor edit your books? Definitely. I’ve had a couple – all brilliant! But at the moment I’m using the awesome Nas Dean

Where do you prefer to buy your books? Everywhere, but I love small bookstores and have a dream to one day open a book exchange with a difference!

What books would you like to read again? Whenever I need a pick me up I always reread Sophie Kinsella. It’s hard to pick a favorite but I love Twenties Girl and What’s Your Number?!  They are fun, light and feel good J

Is there a particular movie that you preferred over the book version? I love movies, but I’m yet to find a movie of a book that I have read that is better than the book. For me, the book is always better!

Do you have any advice for other writers starting out? Don’t doubt yourself!? 

Do you ever write in your PJ’s? No. I’m a get out of bed, walk straight into the shower kind of girl. I never feel ready for the day unless I’m showered and dressed. Even when I’m sick I still get out of bed and complete the morning routine J

What are your pet peeves? People who can’t park!

You are trapped on a tropical island - who would you like to be stranded with? Lol, well the fantasy is Chris Hemsworth, but the reality is I’d rather be stuck with my hubby, kids and of course, my animals!!

What is your favorite food and beverage? That’s a hard thing to choose. But when I told my daughter that I have at least 10 cups of coffee a day, she did mention that I may have a problem, lol. Funny thing is I only drink decaf!

How many hours per day do you try to devote to research and writing? I try to always spend 6 hours in my office, either doing the admin side of things or writing. Some days it’s more on the admin side and others it’s more writing

What are 3 things you never leave home without (apart from keys, money, and phone)? Clothes, lippie and I always have to be wearing perfume. Does that count? J

Sleep in or get up early? Up early. When the weather is warmer I like to start the day with a walk along the beach at Mooloolaba.

Laptop or desktop for writing? Both, but mostly desktop

Your favorite gadget? I love my phone!

Where and when do you prefer to do your writing? I get most of my writing done in my office at home, but some days inspiration doesn’t strike. That’s when I grab the laptop and head to the beach. The sound of the waves clears my mind and helps get me back on track

Your thoughts on receiving book reviews - the good and the bad -  Well, of course, it’s always nice to get those great reviews, and it hurts to get the bad ones. But my books aren’t for everyone, and I’m okay with that. I just prefer it when the reviewer is kind about it J

Do you have a bucket list? Kind of. I have some travel destinations that I’m slowly working through. We’ve done a lot of awesome places on the east coast of Australia, Alaska and Canada, and Hawaii. Western Australia is the next one on the list to visit

What inspired you to start writing, and when?
I started writing when I was unemployed. Unusually the weather was bad here, in the south of France, and I was climbing the walls. My husband suggested that like the Shelly’s and Byron we should write a ghost story. Mary Shelly produced Frankenstein and while not on a par with that, I think I’ve created a vampire that will amuse a number of you.

What is your preferred genre?
I don’t have a preferred genre. I do a lot of Indie book reviews and there is mostly something good or bad in any genre. I love original thought, but hate formulaic romance.

How many books have you written?  If more than one, are any a series…or trilogy?
Next to the 2 language in the Blood books, for which Paradox book covers has done the covers, I’ve also cooperated with my friend Elspeth Morrison on the short story bundle; Something Short which is helping raise money for support in mind Scotland. Also recently I was involved with a bundle that is raising money for the charity Macmillans nurses called; You’re not alone. 

Tell us a little about your book.
The language in the Blood series is comedy about a Scottish vampire that ends up living the high life in the south of France. What inspired me was my current life in France, but also the life I left behind in Scotland. I’ve managed to weave in many things that I experienced there and here. I do miss my Scottish friends and this allowed me to write down some fond memories. (be it in a rather twisted way)

Do you have plans for a new book?
I’m currently working on a romantic novel: Conversations with Tom. It is inspired by my cat. It is about a man that has been left by his wife, shortly after they adopt a ginger haired kitten. It weaves in lots of humourous cat anecdotes as the man finds new love.

Is there an Author that you would really like to meet?
If he was still alive, I’d love to meet Graham Greene. It is a rare talent that can write comedy and drama equally well.

Do you plot or write by the seat of your pants?
Seat of my pants, nothing is planned.

Did you have an editor edit your books?
My good friend Penny Hunter has been such a help in editing my Language in the Blood books. I was a total novice when I started out, so her guidance has been invaluable.

Couldn’t live without my Kindle!

Proud to be an Indie.

What book are you currently reading and in what format (ebook/paperback/hardcover)? 
E-book of Resistance by promising YA Indie writer Kayla Howarth. Enjoyed the first in the series and the second is pretty good too.

Who designed the cover of your book?
I did a rather poor job myself with a photo of a toy dog and some ketchup. Then I had it redesigned by Paradox book covers who did an infinitely better job! 

Do you have any advice for other writers starting out? 
Start on your next book and prepare to work every waking hour. Make the book the best it can be. So many Indies do not use editors and it’s embarrassing to have a reviewer point out any mistakes. I was also pleasantly surprised that it’s not that expensive to have a professional book cover made for me. 

Do you ever write in your PJ’s?
Probably, I live in the south of France, so it’s not unusual for me to wander about in a nighty.

What are your pet peeves?
Ignorant racist people, the ones that start a sentence with, “I’m not a racist but……”

Just one? No! Probably Wine, who says you can’t find inspiration at the bottom of a glass?

Like Cameron who likes his prey flavoured by champagne, I’m rather partial too to the bubbly beverage.

Not enough. I spend most of my time now on promoting my books and holding down a full time job. I’m a very lazy researcher that gets most her information of Wikipedia.

Early riser.

I love writing on my balcony, can’t beat writing in some fresh salty air.

Your thoughts on receiving book reviews - the good and the bad 
It’s the thing that keeps me writing. I get such a buzz from getting a 5 star review. Bracing myself for a one star, there are a lot of trolls out there who revel in giving hard working writers a single star random review. 

What is a movie or TV show that you watched just recently and really enjoyed?
Enjoying Orphan Black, not normally a sci-fi fan, but this is just good fun with an amazing actress, who plays several characters, but you wouldn’t know it as they seem just so different in character and speech.

What inspired you to start writing, and when? Inspiration is an excellent term for it connotes writing coming from within (as from the heart). My writing has always been creative and inspired, from childhood through school and college and beyond by who and what is around me. After college, I wrote for newspapers and magazines. It was after I had “inspired” students in a creative writing course in Annapolis that I was advised by Richard Lederer to convert the course into a book. Hence my book ‘MYTH, MAGIC and METAPHOR, A Journey into the Heart of Creativity’ was published. Since then, all my books have come as a result of someone or something calling for my experiences to be put into print.

What is your preferred genre? All my books are a different genre, but A CRUEL CALM is historical fiction. That allowed the facts to come together in a story that could not be verified completely but allowed a view of the past from a personal perspective.

How many books have you written?  If more than one, are any a series…or trilogy? I have written eight books which includes one which I revised with additional material. They are all of a different genre.

Tell us a little about your book. This is the story of my mother’s life. She died when I was only 18 and did not tell me about her life before I was born. I spent 14 years researching. My second language is French, so I was able to interview people in Paris who knew either my mother or the era, 1927-1939, during which she resided in Paris. I also was able to interview a gentleman who had worked on the Spirit of St. Louis in San Diego. He gave me information about the famous flight of Charles Lindbergh. My mother was at le Bourget Aeroport when he landed.  I read James Joyce so that when he spoke to the protagonist (aka my mother), he was speaking in his own voice. Other writers and artists also speak in their own voice as a result of my research.

Do you have plans for a new book? Having just completed two books in the past two years, I am taking a bit of time out.  A CRUEL CALM is being developed into a feature by LITTLE STUDIO FILMS. I also have presentations coming up for which I need to prepare, especially one (about my book PATRIOT PRIEST) which I shall be giving just prior to Pope Francis’ arrival at Catholic University in Washington, DC.

Is there an Author that you would really like to meet? James Joyce! 



Was there an Author that inspired your writing? In my book MYTH, MAGIC and METAPHOR, I give many examples of different modes of writing. But the bottom line is listen to your heart. Do not listen to others or try to copy another author. Everyone is unique. Everyone has his or her own voice. 



Do you plot or write by the seat of your pants? I think about my writing, my individual project, then, based upon the genre, I plunge into whatever aspects the writing requires. Some can be from “the seat of my pants.” Others require research.



Did you have an editor edit your books? I have had editors read and recommend changes, but not for all my books. The La Jolla book (La Jolla, A Celebration of Its Past) came from articles I wrote for La Jolla Village News/ Beach and Bay Press. The publisher read the articles from a period of over two years and asked if these articles could be made into a book. It took a year to condense the articles since my articles comprised over 500 pages and the publisher only wanted 200 pages including photographs. So yes, there is more to be published about La Jolla.

Do you prefer ebooks, paperbacks or hardcover? Paperbacks…I like turning the page and paperback books are less expensive. But for a cherished book, I always buy hard cover.

Where do you prefer to buy your books? Often my books come from Amazon.com, but I love roaming bookstores, especially stores where used books are also available.

Are you a self- published (Indie) Author? Two of my books were self published: ‘ALL ALONE, Washington to Rome’ and ‘Messages from Nature’. The latter is a collection of short stories published in various magazines over the years. A CRUEL CALM just got republished by ROCK IT PRESS.

What books would you like to read again? The work of Dostoyevsky, Phyllis Whitney, Toni Morrison,… oh my, in my library, I am surrounded with classics and never tire of rereading them!   

Is there a particular movie that you preferred over the book version? Green Mansions

What book are you currently reading and in what format (ebook/paperback/hardcover)? Hardcover: ‘OLGA RUDGE & EZRA POUND by Anne Conover

Who designed the cover of your book? Me! With the help of my husband who took the photo from what we believe was my mother’s apartment on the Île St. Louis. Quite a story there, but save for another time.

Do you find yourself intrigued by the cover of a book enough to buy it?  no

Do you have any advice for other writers starting out? Feel a passion for your subject and write. Do not share with anyone; finish it completely; then put it away for a few days before you reread it and have some objectivity. Finally, make changes you feel needed ---all this before you hand over your work to an editor.

Do you write under a pen name? no

Do you ever write in your PJ’s? no

What are your pet peeves? Noise, especially my dogs barking and asking that I check the front door and then find no one there!



You are trapped on a tropical island - who would you like to be stranded with? My husband!

What is your favorite food and beverage? The real Caesar salad (with anchovies) and  chai tea latte

How many hours per day do you try to devote to research and writing? Varies from all day to a couple of hours

What are 3 things you never leave home without (apart from keys, money and phone)? Proper attire, credit card, and pen

Sleep in or get up early? 8 AM  (could be considered early?)

Laptop or desktop for writing? desktop

Your favorite gadget? Remote control for the garage door

Where and when do you prefer to do your writing? In my library at home and in the morning (after I take care of my horses)

Your thoughts on receiving book reviews - the good and the bad -  They either confirm a job well done or give me incentive to improve unless, as in some cases, the reader did not understand the content.

Do you have a bucket list? My bucket is overflowing with wishes but the way the world is these days, most are on hold!

Author Biography

Although born in La Jolla, California, Patricia spent an equal amount of time living on the other coast in Washington, D.C., the home of several generations of her mother's family. In 1961, her mother died of cancer. Patricia was only 18. She returned to Vassar College with a year at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, and earned a B.A. degree in Philosophy.

Later, as a single parent of three children, she and her young family raised, raced (winning at Santa Anita, Hollywood Park, Del Mar, and Golden Gate), and showed Thoroughbred horses. After her children were grown, she completed a Masters degree followed by a PhD specializing in Creative Arts and Communication. 

For several years, Dr. Daly taught English and writing to University students and adults, wrote for several magazines, and had a newspaper column with Beach and Bay Press. She now gives talks on a myriad of subjects.

Patricia now lives in Virginia with her husband Steele Lipe, MD, three dogs, two horses, and two cats, all rescues (except husband). She is the author of five books two of which have her paintings on the covers. She is past President of the National League of American Pen Women, La Jolla Branch and recently, of the DC Branch. Patricia was a 2002 winner of the San Diego Book Awards Association, recipient of the 2004 Woman of Achievement Award from NLAPW, Best Books Award Finalist, 1st runner up trophy winner of JADA Award Winning Novel Contest in 2006, VIP for Cambridge Who's Who, 2009 Golden Nib Award winner for Poetry and more.
