"First 5 chapters" blog tour - Meet Starr West - Tomorrows Child

Tomorrows Child By Starr West

Picture
There was a girl....
lost in despair
alone in a world she didn't recognise
a prophecy she didn't understand
a future she refused to accept
a past she couldn't remember
a dream that brought it all together
and a love... that made it all worth while

Character interview with Psyche From Tomorrows Child

Welcome Psyche. It is wonderful to have you here with us today.

Psyche:  Thank you, it is an honour to be here.

Describe yourself in one word :
Psyche: Searching

Describe the world you live today?
Psyche: Broken!  Everything I took for granted was basically stripped away.  And when I lost my mother – I was left alone in a world that I barely recognized anymore.  A part of me just wanted to die too, so I could be with her.
The thing I’ve noticed the most is that it’s quiet, I mean really quiet. I notice the silence all the time, especially at night. I sneak out and watch the sky, just like I used to do with Mum. And there is nothing. Sometimes the frogs are going crazy or the crickets are so loud it makes my head ring. But on other nights you can hear the tiniest sound. Even if you didn’t notice it before, there was always sound, a gentle hum that reminded us that life existed.
Sometimes you don’t notice things until they are gone.

How did your magic come to you and explain to us how it affects you?
Psyche: Magic, at first I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasn’t just dreaming.  Sometimes I still do!

How did you meet The Goddess Persephone? What is she like?
Psyche: When I first met her, it was pretty scary. She’s a Goddess after all! And she doesn’t have a reputation for kindness, but I think that has a lot to do with being “Goddess of the Underworld” rather than anything she has actually done. But I owe her my life and she is a lot more normal than I expected. It’s not like we sit around drinking tea and chatting or anything but she feels like a friend and I know I am safe with her around.

What can you share with us about your Hellhound attack?
I try not to think about this too much because fear can paralyse you and stop you living. But, everything happened so fast, I was so scared; my heart was pumping so fast, so loud. I thought this is it, I'm going to die and I'm not going to be able to say goodbye to the people I love… but at least I would get to see my mother again. The scars I carry from that attack are an important reminder that I survived. Being a survivor is the most important thing these days.

Tell us about your training and what the purpose behind it might be?
Psyche: You mean my Warrior training? I loved training.  Training gave me confidence.  I don’t feel like a helpless victim anymore, a burden to the others.  Now I’m fighting back and I am prepared to do anything if it means I never have to feel helpless like that again.

You own a Bedford bus?
Psyche: I love that old Bedford bus.  It will always remind me of the days I spend with my mother, and all of our adventures on the open road.  It really was such a special time with my mother.  A time I treasure.

What is your favourite iTunes song at the moment? and why?
Psyche: Seven Devils all around me by Florence and the Machine. It reminds me that evil is all around and I should always be prepared.

Who is Phoenix?
Psyche: The love of my life. I would be lost without him J

Tell us about where you live and the tribe?
Psyche: Mount Misty – a magical place – the place I call home.Mount Misty is awesome. There used to be this little town perched on the top of a mountain but it’s more like a ghost town these days. There are hardly any people left, but I expect things will get better eventually. The valley, where I live with my grandmother, is surrounded by rainforest. Some of the trees are thousands of years old, I recon. The down side is that it rains a lot; we get a lot of fog and misty rainy days especially in the winter. There are about 10 families in our ‘tribe’. They spent a lot of time preparing for the end of civilization and I am very thankful for this. I guess if it wasn’t for them, I would be dead already. It’s horrifying to imagine what could have happened.

Describe Libby, your grandmother, to us please.
Psyche: Libby is a survivor. She has spent most of her life preparing for mankind's stupidity.  Libby never took anything for granted.  I thank the Goddess everyday for Libby.Libby is amazing, she knows so much about everything. I love that she has kept all those old books and family diaries. The only thing that’s annoying is that she is always teaching me things. Every day is like being at school but I guess it’s because I have so much to learn and Mum isn’t here to teach me anymore.

What are your dreams and hopes for the future?
Psyche: To see a world free of war, starvation, sickness, greed.  And perhaps one day, to have a family. But it is hard to think about bringing a family into a world that is so broken.
Maybe the best we can hope for is that tomorrow will be a little better than today.

Your favourite thing in the world?
Psyche: In the old world, I had heaps of favourite things! Every day I had new favourites. These days are much simpler – hot water for baths are high on my list and our gatherings are really cool.

Who is your idol?
Psyche: Definitely Phoenix

What message do you have for us?
The earth is fragile. It should be handled with care if we want our children to have a future where their day is full of laughter instead of the sounds of war. Where they can eat until their bellies are full.  Where a long life free of sickness is a given, not a luxury.  A world where there is abundance and "greed" is an endangered species.
Take notice of the little things and find joy in simple things; take off your shoes and walk on the earth – get your feet dirty and go outside and hug a tree. I mean that literally, really! Wrap your arms around tree and feel the emotions that flow. You will be amazed. Thanks for having me here today! This was so much easier than Libby’s magick training or my warrior training.

Author Bio Starr West
Starr lives a rural life in Far North Queensland, Australia. She is a wife and a mother to four amazing and sometimes boisterous boys.
Writing has always been a passion but it wasn’t until she was asked, ‘If you died tomorrow, what is the one thing you’d regret?’
It’s a pretty confronting question but the answer was to write and publish a novel. That was enough motivation to get started and within 6 months, she had finished the first draft of Tomorrows Child, the first book in a series of Paranormal Fantasy Novels.
Starr is involved in a number of community projects and enjoys learning ‘lost skills’ such as baking bread, making soap and candle making. Her boys can light a fire with two sticks and find their way out of the rain forest. When she isn’t running after children or writing, she can be found in the garden growing vegetables or in the kitchen making things from scratch.
I began writing Tomorrows Child in about 2009 and finished the first draft in about 6 months. I have lost count of the number drafts this story has been through and the amount of times it’s been edited. At one time, I actually thought I’d lost the manuscript in a computer meltdown. In 2011, I enlisted a professional editor, designed my cover and finally made the decision to self-publish.These days, I spend my time juggling family life with work, writing, promoting and reading work from other self-published authors. When I am not writing for myself or for others, I am usually hanging out in the garden. We are fortunate to live in a small country town where life is simple and the pace is a little slower than it would be if we lived in the city. We still manage to fill our days with activity but it seems less stressful! I am currently working on the second book in the series and expect to publish it in the second half of 2012.

About the Authors

Patti Roberts

Location Cairns Queensland Australia.

Patti Roberts, an Australian Author currently writing the Paradox Series. This is not a story about Vampires. However, we are talking about a predatory being that existed long before the word Vampire was ever whispered… the real monsters behind the legendary Vampire myths that reigned in Ancient times. They were a race of Fallen Angels called Grigorians. With their black feathered wings and their unyielding taste for human flesh and blood, it is easy to see how the myths about Vampires first began. And so today, while mankind continues to be enthralled by tales about Vampires and such, the real identity of the true villain, the Grigorian, remains hidden and free to walk among us at will...
On any given day you can usually find me sitting at my desk in front of my laptop pounding away at the keys writing another chapter in the Paradox series. That would be a run of the mill kinda day for me!A packet of Cruskits and a water bottle, that is now at room temperature, is sitting on the desk beside me. There is also a mass of USB cables, notepads, bills to be paid, bills to be filed a bunch of pens and a printer that is forever running out of ink. Sound familiar.
On most days I have to remind myself to eat and drink. I Should be thinner!!!I am sure my housemates are very thankful that I still manage (usually at some ungodly hour) to bathe, brush my hair and clean my teeth.
I don’t know about you. But I am usually mortified when visitors just pop around, only to find me sitting at my desk and still in my PJ’s. I don’t even want to broach the hair situation! Did I remember to put last nights dishes away???Now, they say to be a good writer, you must read, read, read. Then read some more…
Thankfully, due to the invention of the electronic reader (I have a kindle and love it) I get to read more these days. Correction… I have my kindle read to me! The only thing is, I have so many great books on my kindle that it is so hard to know where to start. So many choices.
A little more about me… And how you can contact me.

Carolyn Hockley

Preparing to launch my first ebook, Arazi Crossing Book One: Quinn’s Evolution. It’s a YA fantasy book – part of a series, in fact. You will always know me as Carolyn Hockley. I like that name. Two wonderful people gave me that name a few years ago. I reside in a wonderful place called Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. I have a family and a lot of cool friends. I am also blessed with a wickedly smart German shepherd named Ginger: we call her “G”. My BF is my biggest fan! He drives me nuts each day, pacing to get his hands on ‘the next chapter’. I wouldn’t have him any other way! I write almost every day, in between my kids’ swim team practices, working two part time jobs and running a modest home. I love to blast my music when I drive, though I always leave the window open a tad so I can hear emergency vehicles approaching :) My fav music is the NOW tunes my kids like – Usher, Katie Perry, Eminem, Rhianna, Gym Class Heroes… love the tunes that make you wanna move. Cheers for now!

Character Interview - Grace Connors from the Paradox Series - Guest blogger Julia Crane

Let me start out by saying that Patti Roberts is one of my favorite young adult authors.

Not only is she a phenomenal writer, she is truly a giving person. She is always friendly and willing to lend a helping hand. I’m not sure how I stumbled across the first book in her series, but I’m glad I did.

I fell in love with Patti’s writing and her characters. The below interview takes place with one of the main characters from the Paradox series at the age of 14. In book two—which I just finished—Grace is now 16, and I am anxiously awaiting the third book.

Good morning Grace, it a pleasure to have you with us today

Thank you, it is nice to be here.

We know it’s been difficult for you and your mother Kate, since your father died. How are things going now? Is Kate eating and sleeping normally?
Oh mum is fine now, we both are.  At first I wasn’t sure if either of us was going to make it – or if we even wanted too.  I was so young, eleven, and I felt so lost without my dad.  But with the help of my amazing friends Josh and Angela, life has been, well different, but good.  And I never thought I would be able to say that.  I know that mum  is really grateful that Wade has been here  – for the both of us.  He is like a surrogate dad.  My dad would really have liked him.  When I was little, I used to close my eyes and pretend that my dad was still there.  That Wade was my dad.
Angela has become your best friend and you admit she is a bit odd. Have you ever talked to her about her strange behaviour? And do you ever feel frustrated by the things she says?
At first I did – not that I had any friends to compare her with!  Other than Patrick who died so young, Angela was my first real friend.  Then of course Josh came along… He had a huge crush on Angela – he still does!  I was never frustrated by Angela.  Surprised, yes – often!  Angela has this special way about her that makes it impossible for me not to want to be around her.  And Josh, well he is just like a brother.

Do you think your match making efforts with Angela will ever work?
Okay, well that is frustrating!!!  Here is this great guy who just adores her to bits and it’s like she just doesn’t get it!  I would do anything to have a boyfriend that loved me like that!

Tell us a little more about Josh?
Josh is adorable – I could hug him to death.  Mum calls us the three musketeers’, Angela, Josh, and I.   Josh is so great, he would make a wonderful knight in shining armour.  And he always makes me make me laugh.   Not Angela though.  But then no one can make Angela laugh…  Dad would have called her an old soul in a young body.

Most children and many adults want a Guardian Angel or an imaginary friend. So I was shocked to learn that you sent Hope away when you needed her the most. Hope was part of your life for over three years; do you still remember her? and do you miss her?
Hope was just a dream, an imaginary friend.  I know that now.  Mum needed me.  She used to say that I just made Hope up when I was little because I didn’t have any real friends.  Hope sure felt real at times though, and dad even used to play along.  He made us both swords when we used to play dress-ups for one of my favourite movies The Lord Of The Rings.   I would love to have a real Guardian Angel, that would be great!

Eleven is very young to have to care for an adult when your mother should have been caring for you. We understand she was grieving, but you were so young, do you feel robbed of your childhood because of the way your mother reacted after your father died?
It was a sad and weird time.  I missed dad so much but I was more afraid of what would happen to me if mum died too.    I used to have such vivid dreams about losing both my parents. So just having mum there, in any condition, was good enough for me.  And then there was Wade, so…

The visions you have are certainly intense, how much of these do you remember and can you see a connection to your current life?
At the time I have my visions or dreams – I’m really not sure what they are – but they always feel so real – like they really happened.  But I don’t think they are connected to my real life.  I read somewhere that dreams are just your mind trying to make sense of random thoughts you have throughout the day.   Maybe I just have a vivid imagination.

What is Darwin like? I have always wanted to visit but it seems like another world away.  Darwin is really great.  I like living here.  Not that I have ever lived anywhere else.  It will always be my home too me.  Some people don’t like the heat and the rain that much.  Well okay, it does get hot sometimes but I don’t mind, I’m used to it.  And the rain, well that can be smothering at times but I really love the thunder storms – they are kind of amazing and scary but at the same time they are powerful – energizing!  That does that sound weird?

Wade has been very helpful and supportive. Do you think he is falling in love with your mother?
When I was little things like that never crossed my mind.  My mother wasn’t capable of loving anyone other than my dad.  But now, well sometimes I think it would be kind of cool.  She shouldn’t have to be alone for the rest of her life.  And sometimes Wade reminds me so much of my dad that they could be related.  Like they are brothers or something…

 Are you still a vegetarian?
Oh yes, ever since I saw those cows being slaughtered at the abattoir I have never been able to eat red meat ever since.  It was just so horrible, and the smell…  I feel sick just thinking about it.  I really like fish though.

Thanks for talking with us today Grace,
Thank you, it has been fun.  Easiest homework ever…  Well kind of homework.  Everyone starting high school has to do these interview type assignments for the new student councilor, Miss Siena Cintra.  She is so pretty and I wished I had hair like that.

Interview with the characters from Arazi Crossing - Interviewer Natalie

Meet the characters from Arazi Crossing - Interviewed By Natalie

I have the privilege of sitting down with the teens today from Arazi Crossing as they take time from their busy schedules to answer a few questions for me.
Natalie: Hi everyone, so glad you can be here with me today. So tell me, have you all had a chance to have a bit of a rest now that Quinn’s quest is done?

Quinn: Well, with everything that’s going on with the Arazi Royals, our trip back home to visit with our families was cut short. And for me, I feel the pressure of finishing my Ace training before the next quest.

April: Yeah, I’m kinda tired but excited about getting to the next quest.

Juina: I was bummed that my quest was moved but I understand why. At least I will get a bit more rest this way.

Janus: I’m cool. I just want to get on with it, you know? The Royals really need our help.

Maya: I’m glad for Quinn. He did really great with his quest. I hope I can do as well with mine… when the time comes.

Natalie:  Ok, so there are five of you from all different parts of the world, how is everyone getting along together, was it hard when you all first came together with the different personalities?

April: When we first met at the parallel coliseum, I was so freaked out. Like, first I had to get over the shock of finding out who Mister James really was! Then it took me a long time to even want to get to know the others, but now that we’ve traveled back in history together and helped Quinn get his quest, I feel really close to these guys.

Janus: Yeah, it was hard, being one of only two guys for this thing, but these guys are awesome and I know they will be there for me… no matter what is thrown our way.

Juina: I agree with April. At first, I hated being torn from my family, my home and thrown together with a group of kids I’d never met before. But now that I know why we’ve been brought together and I’ve witnessed just how great they are, these guys have become my new family and we are solid.

Maya: I had a lot of drama going on when all of this started, but Quinn’s a great leader and all of these guys ‘brought it’ in Scotland. I’m proud to have been chosen to be one of the next Arazi Royals and I’m proud of all of us for what we’ve been through.

Quinn: As you know, I’m an only child. I couldn’t have asked for better ‘brothers’ and ‘sisters’. These guys rock!

Natalie:  Quinn, your quest was first, were you scared going into your quest and was it what you had expected or the total opposite from what you thought it would be like.

Quinn: Oh yeah, I was scared. I don’t mind admitting it. I mean, in the first place, traveling to Arazi Crossing with Miss Charlotte, these guys and the other Luminares was a trip in itself but to realize that Arazi Crossing is an actual place in the Earth’s mantle and that magic and sorcery are real? That was crazy. My quest was unbelievable. To go back in history and meet William Wallace in person was the coolest thing ever. To be able to change history like that gave me a real sense of purpose. My sense of kinship with my country is also way stronger now. I am prouder than ever to be Scottish.

Natalie:  How were the rest of you while helping Quinn, do you think it helped you better prepare yourself for your quests as they come?

Janus: For sure. At least now we have a sense of what traveling back in history is like. I know I can count on these guys to be there every step of the way. It was really hard getting used to the old ways of life in Scotland. Luckily our Dune rings helped out with our being able to speak the language. It was scary to be put in the midst of the fighting at Crawford’s farm, but somehow me, Maya and April managed to find the courage to fight with the rest of them.

April: My quest won’t be for a while yet, but I’m ready to help with the other quests. I feel really good about my part in Quinn’s evolution. It was awesome to be part of an old-fashioned Scottish wedding!

Juina: I was fine in Scotland until Quinn and I had to travel to Robroyston with Malcolm Wallace and the other men. When we were in the middle of battling the English, I thought I would have a heart attack! I was so glad they didn’t have guns back then. As for being prepared for my own quest? I hope my mind will overpower my heart if I have to send one of my ancestors to his or her death. I mean, I know these people will die at some point, but I’d rather it not be directly by my own hand.

Maya: I hated being April’s ‘servant’, but the rest of Quinn’s quest was cool. April really surprised me in Scotland. She was great! I also loved the wedding – it was so romantic – something I will never forget. I’m ready for my quest – no question.

Natalie:  Can you guys tell me a bit more about Arazi Crossing and the Royals, they all seem so nice.

Maya: If you close your eyes and think of a royal family who mean something to you, like from your own country, then you can imagine the Arazi Royals.

April: Yeah, if you think of your grandparents or some really kind people in your own life, then that feeling you get when you think of them would describe how great the Royals are. Even though they are Aces, powerful sorcerers… they are so down to earth.

Janus: It was the place that drew me the most. Even though the castle is made of diamond and it’s laid out like the Roman coliseum in Italy, it’s warm and inviting. I really feel at home there.

Juina: When we first arrived in Arazi Crossing, I thought I was losing my mind. The logical side of me kicked in and I dismissed everything around me as not real – just a fantasy. But as soon as the Arazi Royals welcomed us with that beautiful song, my heart opened up and my imagination let them in. It’s still hard for me to talk about the Royals without getting upset. I felt a real connection to Matthew. I don’t know why… really, but a part of me hurts now that he’s gone.

Quinn: Arazi Crossing is a world of its own. The castle, the gardens, the training grounds… even the lake seem like home to me now. As for the Royals, well, they are my family and I felt an instant connection with them as soon as we arrived. Like Juina, my heart aches for Matthew and Emma Jane, but I know they are with the Spirits now and that they are together and safe from Evil.

Natalie:  What was it like travelling to Arazi Crossing for the very first time?

Quinn: Oh… I’ve got this! The chariot? That thing owns! It’s the coolest ride ever! To be able to tunnel down through the earth like that? It was awesome!

Janus: Yeah, to ride along, looking out the windows at all the little creatures and everything? It was sweet!

April: I like the fact that we each got our own sfera. The marbles run the chariot and that’s totally cool. I can’t wait until we get to use them again.

Maya: To find out that there is a diamond-studded tunnel weaving down through the earth was amazing. I had no idea what that part of earth was like.

Juina: As an artist, I hope I get the chance to paint the world below. It was a beautiful journey.

Natalie: What can you share about your Mericotta bracelets?

Maya: Now… I’ve got this! As you know, having anything attached to my left wrist is the most incredible thing for me. When we accepted our destinies and joined the Arazi Royals, our little gifts transformed into Mericotta bracelets. The more we get involved with Good and our destinies, the more our bracelets become part of us. Quinn can explain the rest.

Quinn: During my quest, I could feel my bracelet almost melting into my skin. It didn’t hurt… just tingled and sizzled at times. Once my quest was over and I had my Ace ceremony, my bracelet fully attached itself to my wrist and now it looks more like a tattoo.

April: Yeah, but it works! It’s full of magical powers, right? And mine will too, right?
Quinn: Ha, ha… yes April, yours will too.

Natalie:  Ok something fun for each of you, what is one of your favorite things to do?

April: Shop… hands down the best! Ha, ha.

Maya: I love music. I hope the Royals will let me bring my fav songs to Arazi Crossing.

Janus: Play soccer. I’d love to conjure up my own team of awesome players… that is, when I become an Ace, like Quinn.

Quinn: Collect things. I already have a box full of stuff from Paragon Pyxis, and now I’m hoping with my new life that I will get to travel all over the place, collecting cool things.

Juina: Like I said, I really love painting, so I’d love to paint a few huge murals on the walls inside the Arazi castle.

NatalieWhat is the next step for you all? Whose quest is next and is there anything you can tell us about it?

Quinn: Well… it was supposed to be Juina’s, but Evil has gotten in the way of that plan. King Frederick and Queen Louise talked it over with the Proteziones and decided it would be best to change things up.

Juina: Yeah, I agreed with their choice for the next quest. Something bad is going on and the sooner we get our quests over with, the better for Arazi Crossing and for the Good of everyone.

Maya: We can’t get into details too much since we’re not sure if any members of Evil will get access to this interview.

April: Yeah, sorry, but we have to keep a few secrets until we are almost finished the next quest.

The Hunger Games: Movie vs. Book - Review by Guest Blogger Carolyn Hockley

As an adult and a writer who is submerged in the YA world of books, I found myself counting down the months, then weeks, and finally days until The Hunger Games movie.

We had pre-ordered tickets and stood in line for over an hour to get good seats – ‘we’ being my BF and my two children (who, by the way, had also read the books). Watching the young girls walk into the theatre with their long, dark hair braided to the side – their copies of the book clutched tightly in their hands, I felt a kinship with them – I felt part of a club, so to speak. Never before have I gone to such lengths to see a movie. I wasn’t disappointed.

The movie (nearly 2.5 hours in length) stayed true to Suzanne’s brilliant storyline. Knowing and loving the main characters so much, I had my first ‘cry’ when Katniss Everdeen volunteered to take her younger sister’s place at the ‘Reaping’. After that, my eyes and mind were glued to the screen as I watched the book unfold in front of me. The cast of characters were brilliant. I have not one complaint of the choices there. The crazy colourful hair and clothing worn by those living in The Capitol truly brought home the reality of the distinction between the ‘rich and the poor’. The cinematography was excellent.

The ‘Tribute’ deaths were quick and often a bit out of focus – which was fine by me since my 11 year old daughter was sitting in the theatre next to me. My second ‘cry’ was during **spoiler here** the most poignant, gripping scene in the entire book – Rue’s death. The sequence of events here was a bit different but well done. ‘Katniss’ laying the fresh flowers over Rue’s body was both touching and heartbreaking – well done.

After reading Suzanne’s 3-book series, my one suggestion or preference for the movie would have been an inner dialogue from Katniss’s point of view. There were many times during the movie when her thoughts of what was happening would have made the movie even better. Would I pre-order tickets and stand in line again for a second movie? Absolutely! I give The Hunger Games movie ***** stars.

Author Interview with Martin Rouillard - Rise of the Red Dragon (Tales of the Lorekeepers - Tome 1)

Win a free ebook "Rise of the Red Dragon"

Competition closes on the 21st of April.  To enter all you have to do is tweet and facebook this post, follow this blog and like the authors book on Amazon.  Then leave a comment and your email address in the comments box below.

Where were you born and where do you call home?

I was born in Québec, Canada. Now I live in Boischatel, just outside of Québec City, with my lovely wife and two dogs. I definitely call this place home, a place where I can be myself and feel welcome, no matter what happens.

Tell us about something that has just happened or is about to happen in your life that you would like to share.

I just got married last summer and my wife is simply amazing. Accepting to tie the knot with a self-publishing author, with no books published (at the time) and working full-time on his first novel, that's what I call love!

Patti says: congratulations - that's fantastic :))

What is the name of your most recent book and if you had to sum it up in 30 or less words, what would you say?

The book is called Rise of the Red Dragon and it's the story of Samuel, a teenage boy who is magically transported to a parallel universe, in ancient Britain, where he needs to save a legend.

If you gave one of your characters an opportunity to speak for themselves, what would they say?

I would have to give that opportunity to Angeline, but predicting what that little fairy would say is practically impossible. She would probably tell us to stop whining so much about everything and do something about it.

Do you have plans for a new book?   Is this book part of a series?

Yes, this book is part of a series, called Tales of the Lorekeepers. Each book will present a different legend, from any mythology, that Samuel needs to protect from evil forces trying to change it.

What books have influenced your writing?

Although it is not in the same genre, I would have to say any work from H.P. Lovecraft influenced me quite a bit. My writing is nowhere close to his of course, but I love the way he describes scenes and atmospheres. As far as story goes and character building, I think The Dresden Files from Jim Butcher and of course, Harry Potter from J. K. Rowling.

Do you prefer ebooks, paperbacks or hardcover?

Ebooks. I used to prefer traditional books but ebooks are just so much more convenient. However, I must admit I like having a well-stocked bookcase.

Are you a self published (Indie) Author?

Yes. I decided to go indie without sending my manuscript to a traditional publisher. I have been in business all my life and to me, this isn't any different. With the tools available to authors these days, it just made more sense to me.

What book would you like to read again?

It, by Stephen King. It was probably the first book I really got into when I was young and would love to see how I would feel about it today.

Is there a particular movie that you preferred over the book version?

The Green Mile, hands down. The cast in the movie was incredible and the story very well adapted.

What book are you currently reading and in what format (ebook/paperback/hardcover)?

A Game of Thrones, by George R. R. Martin, in ebook format. I know, I am late to the party.

Patti says:  I LOVE this series and started reading the books after I saw the first season on TV.  Now I am totally hooked. So you're not the only one late to the party - but - better late than never!!!

Are there any Authors that have grasped your interest recently and why?

Any active member of the Indie Fantasy Authors Group on Facebook. Their work is definitely next on my "to-read" list.

Who designed the cover of your book?

The dragons were sketched and inked by a friend of mine, Delmar Samatar. I added the colors and made the cover myself from his work.

Do you buy a book by the cover?

I must confess that I do indeed.

Do you have a book trailer?

Not yet, but hopefully I can find the time to put one together soon.

What are your thoughts on book trailers?

I think we are barely seeing the tip of the iceberg. Sooner or later, book trailers will be a lot more present in our medias. We are seeing commercials for video games on TV right now, so why not books? With authors taking marketing in their own hands and fighting for customer's attention, book trailers are sure to grow in popularity.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Since I am still new to this industry, I'm still learning a lot myself. However, I will say this: find yourself a good author group to join. Facebook groups like Indie Author Group are a great place to get information and resources. Don't be shy to ask questions and to comment either. Everyone is in the same boat and trying to help each other.

Do you write under a pen name?

No.

What date were you born? - you can leave off the year if you like.

March 21st 1977.

Did you have a favorite toy as a child?

I loved Hot Wheels. I would make up endless lines of miniature cars and then move then one by one across the house. I was a pretty quiet child.

Do you ever write in your PJ’s?

Are you kidding me? This is the best part of being self-employed! I'm usually in my PJ's until lunch.

Patti says:  Me too!!

What are your pet peeves?

Anything that has to do with traffic. People cutting in line at the last minute while you waited the entire mile or not letting you merge into traffic when you're trying to get on the highway, that sort of thing. Actually, people without manners in general are a major pet peeve. People who can't learn to live in society and respect others should just stay home.

Any pets that you would like to tell us about, share a pic?

I do have two dogs, a Labrador retriever named Moka and a miniature Dachshund named Charlotte. One of my characters, Angeline, is more or less based on Charlotte and what she would say if she could talk.

White wine or red?

Red

Coffee or tea?

Coffee. And then more coffee. And some more coffee.

So you like to cook?  Do you have a favorite food?

I love to cook. I started making my own pasta recently and it is the absolute best.

Vanilla or chocolate ice-cream?

Vanilla.

What do you normally eat for breakfast, of do you skip it and get straight to work?

I usually get up, grab a cup of coffee and go straight to work.

Sleep in or get up early?

I get up early, although not as early as I did before. I used to get up around 4:30 or 5:00. Now, I sleep in until 6:30.

Laptop or desktop for writing?

Desktop.

Your favorite gadget -

iPad. And my pasta extruder.

Where and when do you prefer to do your writing?

At home, in the morning. I am definitely a morning person.

Your thoughts on receiving book reviews - the good and the bad -

My very first review was for a short story and I got 5 stars. I thought my writing was a gift I was offering to the world. Then I got crushed by another reviewer, saying the story had probably been written by a French kid. I was devastated. However, I learned a lot from both the good and the bad reviews. Ultimately, it showed me my strengths and weaknesses as a writer. It also taught me that I definitely need someone to professionally edit my work before I publish it.

If you were deserted on an island, who are 3 famous people you would want with you?

Lemmy Kilmister, Anne Hathaway and Chad Ochocinco

Where is one place in the world that you would really love to visit someday?

Costa del Sol in southern Spain. I've been lucky to visit so many gorgeous place already, this would have to be the next one.

One of your favorite quotes -

It's always impossible until it is done. - Nelson Mandela

List 3 books you just recently read and would recommend?

1) Any H.P. Lovecraft anthology

List 3 of your favorite movies?

An actor or a book character you have a crush on -

Scarlett Johansson

What is a movie or TV show that you watched just recently and really enjoyed?

I really like this new show called The River, but I'm still looking for something to fill the void left by Lost.

If your book was made into a TV series or Movie, what actors would you like to see playing your characters?  Feel free to add pics.

I have no idea really, but I know I need Sean Bean (Boromir) to play a part in it. It's just the way it is now.

Patti Says: you know it is said that Sean Bean has died in all the Movies/TV he has "been" in!  Darn it!  The latest of course was as Lord Stark in Game Of Thrones.

Where can your readers stalk you?

Is your book in Print, ebook or both?

Both:

Ebook:

Paperback
