Interview with Author - Lisa Kumar - Win an Ebook

Hi Lisa, nice of you to join us.

Where were you born and where do you call home? I was raised in a little Indiana town named Nappanee and now live in the Chicago suburbs.

How long have you been writing? I've been writing for about two years.

What is the name of your most recent book and if you had to sum it up in 30 or less words, what would you say? Through the Rabbit Hole is my latest release. Here’s my summery in thirty or less words: When a human woman falls through a dimensional tear into a fey lord's lap, forgotten memories resurface and collide with reason. Will she stay in his world or leave?

If you gave some of your characters an opportunity to speak for themselves, what would they say? Hmm, that depends on the character. I try to give each character his or her own distinctive voice, motivations, and goals.

For Lorh, the hero in Through the Rabbit Hole, I’m sure he would say he’s waited long enough for Natalie, the heroine. And…I’m afraid I can’t say much more without getting into spoilers! Natalie would most likely complain about the terrible confusion Lorh and his world heaped on her. He takes evasiveness to a new, frustrating level!

Do you have plans for a new book? Is this book part of a series? I’m working on a full-length fantasy romance series right now. The first book, Mists of Eria, is done but undergoing revisions and critique. The second in the series is mostly in the planning stages right now.

What or who inspired you to write? And how long have you been writing? I love to read romances but often wondered what would happen if the story had taken this or that turn instead of the one the author chose. I guess that’s what I love about writing—the total control of directing the story. It’s both exhilarating and frightening because I don’t always know where the story will go until one of the characters points the way for me.

Would you like to giveaway a copy of your book on this blog? Yes, I would be delighted to.

How did you come up with the title and cover design? I thought Natalie, the heroine, probably felt a little like Alice in Wonderland, so the title came easily to me. Elaina Lee, the cover artist for Astraea Press, designed the cover.

Do you prefer ebooks, paperbacks or hardcover? I prefer the ease and convenience of ebooks. They free up a lot of space in my house!

Where do you prefer to buy your books? Online and in used bookstores.

Are you a self published (Indie) Author? No, I'm published with small e-presses, though I'm looking into self-publishing a few works.

Have you ever read a book more than once? Yes, many times and with many different books.

Do you have any advice for other writers? Learn the craft and don’t be in a hurry to submit or publish your work. Basically, do your homework, so you can make the grade.

What is the best advice that you have ever been given when it comes to writing? Keep growing as a writer. That can encompass anything from craft to developing a tough skin when dealing with criticism.

Do you ever write in your PJ’s? Yes, often.

Cats or dogs? Dogs, though my family has a cat.

White wine or red? Not particularly fond of wine, believe it or not!

Coffee or tea? Neither, but if I had to pick one I would say tea.

Favorite food? Does chocolate count?

Vanilla or chocolate icecream? Vanilla
